Protesting Nasarawa women fault Aisha scheme, demand refund

Umar Muhammed, Lafia
Aggrieved women in Nasarawa who applied for loans in a scheme championed by the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday staged a protest and demanded a refund of the N2,000 paid for the interest form.
The protesters marched from Jos road down to Makurdi and terminated their demonstration at Shendam road at about 12 in the afternoon.
The women, who were visibly unhappy, alleged that the management of AMBA Microfinance Bank did not give them loans despite collecting N2000 from each applicant.
Speaking to Northern City News, one of the protesting women, Mrs. Asebe Tanimu, said over 300 persons from 30 cooperative groups took part in the protest after they were excluded from the loan facility.
She said, “Our present predicament is that each woman in the cooperatives registered with N2000 and was supposed to get N20, 000, but they (the bank) said they could only give N10,000 to each loan applicant.
“We are saying no to that, our money must be paid in full since we are part of the scheme. It is about two years now that they have collected the money from us.”
Efforts to speak with the management of AMBA Micro Finance failed.
