Maserati has finally given its Levante
SUV what it has needed all along, a Ferrari-engineered twin-turbo V8
that delivers 590 horsepower and 538 lb. ft. through an all-wheel drive
system. Using Launch Control, it can hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and with a
long enough road tops out at 187 mph.
Production starts this summer at the Maserati plant in Mirafiori,
just outside Turin. The engine has been modified to work with the
Maserati all-wheel drive system, but it’s a relative of the
Ferrari-engineered and assembled V8s seen in other Italian cars.Proof is in the driving, but I suspect this will be a characterful alternative to various German and English high-performance SUVs.
